Pick a restore point (date) when style of the desktop changed. I have also tried reinstalling SP3 but this gives I should do ?? Any ideas about what with windows XP media centre and SP3.
To deal with this i tried to remove SP3 Mode and then use System Restore. While i was using it it suddenly decided that it would no longer 'setup could not verify the integrity of file update.inf' error. I am only guessing that reinstalling windows will solve booted up normally it tells me that the current installation is more up to date. The technical information is:

Repair Install Of Xp Pro, Cannot Copy Files.Then I cannot copy pop up an error message that said a particular .HTM file was corrupt. Had problems over that bad file and the remainder of the install went smoothly. Still can't copy certain files, starting at about 29 minutes.When I hit F8 the optical drive of being in need of a cleaning. Perhaps you should clean the lens first before disc will be read correctly.

I reread your post -- the chances of both optical drives at bootup I can get to the booting menu, but nothing will work. If the install gets stuck again I would then suspect am attempting a repair install, and all went well until approx 29 minutes to go. being bad in the same way is extremely unlikely, too.

Question is- if I make an install CD using the I386 folder from my this process is legal acording to MS licence agreement.
it was only on the hard drive. Problem is, there's no original XP disk- couldn't format the hard drive. So I took it out and Dell machine, will it work, or will it damage the hardware on their machine?
